Warmth is heat, not UV. You can't feel UV, so the only proof your shade works is a lab test.
Every Retro Umbrella canopy is tested and certified by ARPANSA, the Australian Government's radiation protection agency, to the Australian standard for shade fabric. It blocks 99% of effective UV and is rated ultra-heavy cover, the highest category there is.

Who they are. ARPANSA is the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, the federal government body responsible for protecting Australians from radiation, including the sun's UV.
What they test. Their laboratory measures how much UV a fabric actually stops, against AS 4174:2018, the Australian standard for shade fabrics. The result is a UVE (ultraviolet effectiveness) percentage and a shade category.
What our result means. UVE 99.0% means 99% of the effective UV that reaches the canopy is blocked. That puts it in the ultra-heavy cover category, the top rating under the standard.
Why it matters. A canopy can look thick and still let UV through, and fading is a sign the fabric is breaking down in the sun. Independent testing is the only way to know.

Because we look after it once it arrives. Every canopy has a two-year fade warranty and one year on craftsmanship. If a part ever wears or breaks, tell us the model and we send the right replacement, so the umbrella keeps going instead of being thrown out. Questions about set-up, bases or care come straight to our team.
Many market umbrellas use thin poles and ribs that bend or snap in the first strong gust. Ours stands on a 48mm powder-coated aluminium pole that won't rust, and it is wind-tunnel tested to 60km/h on our 24.5kg base, on a flat, level surface. In strong wind, close it, as you would any umbrella. No base makes an umbrella windproof, and outdoor wind is gustier than a wind tunnel, so treat the test as a guide, not a guarantee.
Yes. Bases are sold separately, and only with the purchase of a Retro umbrella. Our 24.5kg octagonal base is powder-coated steel, sized for the 48mm pole and shaped to match the 8-panel canopy. For open or exposed spots, add the extra weight plate on top.
Standard delivery with Aramex is free Australia-wide, and Express with FedEx is $39 per item. Orders placed before 1pm Sydney time on a business day ship the next business day.

A 3m double-tier canopy shades a six-seat outdoor table through the middle of the day. In the late afternoon the shade moves a metre or two, so set the base slightly towards the sun. The umbrella stands 2.7m tall.
